Internet Explorer 4.0

Here are some fixes for Microsoft's 4th generation
Web Browser

1. Setting up a browser with no previous connection.

Run the Connection Wizard found in the Internet Explorer folder on the start menu.

Or you may install the connection manually. If you install dial-up networking and the TCP/IP protocol manually, then you'll need to follow the instructions below.

2. Setting up a browser that has been upgraded from a working version of
    3.0 or 3.02

The same Connection Wizard must also be run after the installation is complete.

Choose the option as pictured in the Window below.

Then finish the Wizard.

If one doesn't run this Wizard, the browser will not connect. Even if the browser starts the dialer.

By Default, use of a LAN connection is selected in the control panel.
To check, double click the Internet icon, then the Connection tab.

If you change this, then the Connection Wizard can be run from here, also.
Click the Connect button as shown on the example below.
This will run the same Connection Wizard as above.

Warning to business users of Explorer 4.0

A bug found in this program will allow a remote user to log onto a company's network as a valid user!   By now it's certain that most hackers are aware of this.  The patch for this can be downloaded from Microsoft or ZDnet.

Also, Internet Explorer 3 versions should never be installed over a 4 version.
4.0 must be uninstalled prior to installing 3.0.
